A man in his 20s sustained injuries to both arms following what police believe was a shooting incident.
The victim was taken to hospital where medical staff confirmed wounds consistent with firearm injuries to both upper limbs.
The injuries were not considered to pose a threat to life.
A senior officer from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team commented that any deployment of a weapon in a residential area would naturally alarm local people.
Officers confirmed that heightened patrols would be visible in the surrounding neighbourhood as investigations continue.
The detective stated that work was underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
Emergency services were alerted at 10.11pm on the previous evening.
Investigators later established a police cordon on Cambrian Street in Holbeck, which is where officers believe the shooting took place.
Two 26-year-old men remain in police custody following their arrests.
