The beloved veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small will return to television screens this September, with Channel 5 officially announcing the commission of a seventh series.
The Yorkshire-based period production is scheduled to launch on Thursday, September 17 at 9pm.
A companion programme titled All Creatures Great and Small: Behind the Magic will broadcast the following evening at the same time slot.
Production will once again take place in Grassington, located near Skipton in North Yorkshire.
The upcoming series is set during 1946, with the aftermath of the Second World War providing the backdrop as characters gather at Skeldale House.
Channel 5 executives have described the new series as bringing renewed energy to the familiar setting, with established characters reuniting and embracing new opportunities.
According to the broadcaster, protagonist James Herriot faces developments in veterinary practice while the arrival of a new practitioner in the region disrupts existing arrangements.
The programming will continue to offer audiences the established blend of warmth, comedy, and community spirit that has defined the show.
The principal performers will reprise their respective roles in the forthcoming season.
Nicholas Ralph takes the lead as James Herriot, supported by Samuel West as Siegfried Farnon, Anna Madeley portraying Mrs Hall, Rachel Shenton as Helen Herriot, and Callum Woodhouse in the role of Tristan Farnon.
Patricia Hodge will also feature again as Mrs Pumphrey, accompanied by her character’s well-known Pekingese dog Tricki.
Additional returning cast members include Tony Pitts as Richard, Helen’s father, Imogen Clawson as her sibling Jenny, and Mollie Winnard portraying barmaid Maggie.
Maimie McCoy resumes the part of Dorothy, who serves as a companion to Mrs Hall and becomes romantically involved with Siegfried.
The character first featured in the programme’s initial run and reappeared in the 2026 holiday special, where viewers witnessed her sharing a romantic moment with Siegfried.
The actress has spoken publicly about the connection between the two characters.
Gaia Wise continues in the role of Charlotte, who is Tristan’s romantic partner.
The couple declared their feelings for one another during the previous year’s Christmas broadcast.
Actor Callum Woodhouse has suggested that their relationship may encounter difficulties in the upcoming series, noting that while the pairing appears beneficial for Tristan’s wellbeing, circumstances could shift unpredictably.
A fresh addition to the ensemble comes in the form of Granville Bennett, a veterinarian specialising in smaller animals, portrayed by Caolan McCarthy.
The newcomer’s arrival at Skeldale House promises to introduce fresh dynamics to the established household.
McCarthy’s prior acting experience encompasses the film Belfast and a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Cyrano de Bergerac.
The forthcoming season will span six instalments and incorporate numerous guest appearances.
Channel 5 has previously confirmed the programme’s continuation through both seventh and eighth series, alongside additional festive specials.
The broadcaster has acknowledged the production as a cornerstone of its dramatic output.
The series holds the distinction of being Channel 5’s most successful drama, having accumulated viewership exceeding fourteen million across its first five seasons.
All Creatures Great and Small resumes on Channel 5 on Thursday, September 17 at 9pm.
