A series of activities aimed at university and college students will unfold at a Bradford city centre venue this month.
Darley Street Market has organised the schedule to coincide with the start of the academic year.
The initiative offers newcomers and existing students opportunities to discover the market’s offerings through dining, performances, and retail experiences.
Local authority representative Councillor Ian Walker, who serves as Bradford Council’s executive member for neighbourhoods and communities, commented on the programme’s purpose.
The councillor explained that the events provide students with chances to establish connections, form friendships, and familiarise themselves with their surroundings during this significant transitional period.
The market caters to various needs, whether students require household items, weekly groceries, affordable refreshments with companions, or participation in organised activities.
The venue has evolved beyond a traditional market into a thriving city centre hub where visitors can shop, socialise, and engage with cultural offerings.
The schedule commences on Wednesday, September 16, featuring acoustic performances by Bethany Gibson in the Darley Street Kitchen between 4pm and 6pm.
The evening programme includes an interactive bingo event hosted by Shane starting at 6pm.
Thursday, September 17, offers a guided exploration of the market’s Fresh Food Floor for ÂŁ5 per ticket.
The Courtyard area will screen tHE iNVISIBLES later that day, a production created by Bradford filmmaker Sean Grundy.
This screening inaugurates a recurring monthly cinema programme designed to highlight Bradford’s emerging film industry and independent creative community.
Additional performances follow throughout the weekend.
Singer-songwriter Will Matthew provides entertainment on Friday, September 18, between 6pm and 8pm.
Yolo Solo takes to the stage on Saturday, September 19, from 5pm until 7pm.
A three-day Oktoberfest event runs concurrently from Friday through Sunday, presenting an extensive range of beverages sourced from Bradford CAMRA, with musical entertainment accompanying the first two days.
Sunday features a Heritage Open Day examining Bradford’s cycling heritage between 10am and 2pm.
The market’s retail and lifestyle sections remain accessible throughout the period, with the Lifestyle Level operating from 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays and Saturdays.
Adam Tasker, representing the University of Bradford Union of Students, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration.
The students’ union anticipates that attendees will explore the city centre, experience the diverse food and shopping options available, and thoroughly enjoy the festivities.
