The television presenter Declan Donnelly has expressed remorse following an incident involving merchandise from a Marks & Spencer outlet.
Donnelly, who is recognised as one half of the well-known presenting partnership alongside Ant McPartlin, disclosed that the event occurred at Bridgewater Services subsequent to a trip to the Cornwall region.
During a discussion on their podcast, Hanging Out with Ant and Dec, the presenter recounted selecting sandwiches and proceeding to the self-service checkout area.
He described scanning the items, placing them into a bag, processing his Sparks loyalty card, and then departing without completing the transaction.
His co-host promptly drew attention to the fact that payment had not been made.
Donnelly acknowledged the oversight and confirmed that he had placed the items in his bag and simply walked away.
The presenter only became aware of the error once he had already begun consuming an egg and maple bacon sandwich, at which point he realised the purchase had not been finalised.
Attempts to reach Bridgewater Services directly to extend an apology proved unsuccessful.
Instead, Donnelly contacted his office and communicated that he had unintentionally left the premises without paying for the items.
He described feeling significant anxiety and believed law enforcement might become involved due to his identity being known.
Personnel from the service station were subsequently informed of the situation.
The establishment requested a charitable contribution to the mental health organisation Mind, which Donnelly arranged to make.
