A man from Bradford has received a suspended prison sentence after being found with Class A controlled substances at his residence.
Officers attended a property in Thornville Court, Manningham, following the execution of a search warrant.
The individual present at the address, 55-year-old Tariq Mahmood, showed law enforcement officials a pair of training shoes positioned close to his bed.
Within one of the shoes, authorities discovered a yellow container holding approximately £290 worth of crack cocaine and heroin with an estimated value of £70.
During questioning by authorities, Mahmood disclosed that he was dependent on both heroin and crack cocaine.
He revealed that he had accumulated an £800 debt to a supplier.
The defendant confessed to retaining the illicit substances and acknowledged involvement in preparing some of the materials for distribution.
Mahmood entered guilty pleas to two counts of possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply at Bradford Crown Court.
His legal representative, Soheil Khan, emphasised that his client had no prior criminal record related to drug offences.
The barrister argued that Mahmood had made genuine attempts to overcome his substance dependency and had implemented positive lifestyle modifications.
Presiding over proceedings, Recorder Ella Anderson considered the basis of the guilty plea, which outlined that Mahmood had been safeguarding the narcotics on behalf of other individuals.
The submission indicated that these parties had previously subjected him to threats and physical assault.
The recorder accepted that Mahmood had occupied a secondary position in the operation.
The court imposed a 15-month custodial sentence, fully suspended for a period of 18 months.
Additional requirements attached to the suspension include participation in a nine-month drug rehabilitation programme, compliance with a six-month supervision order, and attendance at 20 rehabilitation activity sessions.
