After three decades serving Steeton Primary School, site supervisor Eric Shaw is set to retire, bringing an end to a distinguished 32-year career within the school community located in the Bradford area.

Shaw, widely recognised throughout the institution, has been hailed as a fundamental pillar of the school and a stabilising influence on students, parents, and colleagues alike.

Colleagues and pupils alike referred to him affectionately as Mr Shaw, and his commitment to preserving and enhancing the school’s facilities became a hallmark of his tenure.

Throughout his service, Shaw demonstrated an readiness to tackle any responsibility, regardless of its complexity.

Headteacher Claire Redman commented that there exist very few individuals who embed themselves so thoroughly within a school’s identity in the manner Shaw has managed.

Across more than three decades, he has worked consistently to improve the Steeton campus on a daily basis without seeking acknowledgement.

Despite never pursuing personal recognition, he has garnered both the respect and warmth of all those fortunate enough to collaborate with him.

Redman stated that Shaw embodies the qualities that define an exceptional school community.

His impact extends beyond physical constructions; what truly remains is the self-assurance he instilled in children.

She noted that his absence will be profoundly felt.

Beyond his formal responsibilities, Shaw played a significant role in school athletics as a playleader and mentor, drawing upon his background as a former Yorkshire Judo Champion.

He maintained a routine of cycling to and from the school for numerous years while also devoting extensive time to coaching football, rugby, and cricket squads.

Among the individuals Shaw mentored was Kerri Holland, who later established herself as a Wales international footballer.

Long before gender equality in athletics became a prominent national issue, Shaw advocated for girls’ involvement and achievement in sports, firmly convinced that every young person deserved the opportunity to explore their potential.

Shaw also left an indelible mark on the school grounds by constructing custom furniture and developing inventive recreational spaces, most notably the school’s pirate ship, the Jade Pearl.

His practical methodology and resourceful problem-solving transformed the school into a more inviting and stimulating environment for the entire pupil body.

Shaw departs having constructed far more than physical structures; what endures is a more resilient and caring school community, moulded by his selflessness and devotion.

Educators, students, and parents have conveyed their appreciation for his years of dedication and extended warm wishes for his forthcoming retirement.

The school released a statement expressing that the entire Steeton Primary School community hopes Shaw and his family enjoy a lengthy, fulfilling, and thoroughly deserved retirement.
