ITV viewers in the Bradford area should prepare for modifications to their evening viewing this week as the National Television Awards ceremony requires schedule adjustments.
The annual awards programme will interrupt the regular broadcasting pattern for two of the channel’s most popular soap operas.
Emmerdale and Coronation Street typically air in dedicated evening slots, but this week’s programming grid will see both shows displaced to accommodate the awards ceremony.
The 2026 National Television Awards are scheduled to broadcast from 8pm until 10.30pm on Tuesday, September 8, directly overlapping with the usual transmission times of both programmes.
Coronation Street has received recognition at this year’s ceremony, with the programme nominated for the Serial Drama award.
Two of the show’s performers, Sue Devaney and Gareth Pierce, have also been put forward for consideration in the Serial Drama Performance category.
It should be noted that neither Emmerdale nor Coronation Street currently produces Sunday episodes, meaning loyal viewers will miss their regular instalment of one programme during this period.
A significant storyline recently concluded on Emmerdale, leaving audiences emotionally affected.
Dawn Fletcher, a character portrayed by Olivia Bromley over eight years, met her end in a dramatic car crash sequence.
Dawn, who is established as Kim Tate’s stepdaughter and played by Claire King, perished following a series of distressing incidents that occurred on her wedding day to Joe Tate.
The sequence depicted Jimmy King’s vehicle colliding with the wedding marquee, trapping the newly married couple.
Following the accident, Dawn was transported to hospital where she went into premature labour and delivered a baby boy.
Despite medical intervention, she did not survive her injuries.
Claire King reflected on the emotional demands of filming these scenes, describing the experience as heartbreaking.
She noted that the atmosphere on set during filming was marked by genuine camaraderie among the cast and crew, despite the tragic nature of the scenes being depicted.
King observed that as the filming days progressed toward the conclusion, her co-star appeared to become increasingly affected by the emotional weight of the storyline.
King expressed that the loss proved particularly poignant due to the close working relationship she shared with Bromley, describing her as part of her professional circle.
In comments to Digital Spy, Olivia Bromley discussed the emotional intensity of filming her final scenes as Dawn.
She revealed that the decision to conclude her character’s storyline originated with the producers, and acknowledged that she personally would have been reluctant to completely rule out the possibility of Dawn’s return in the future.
Despite these reservations, Bromley stated that she was entirely satisfied with how her character’s arc concluded, describing the outcome as perfectly suited to allowing her to pursue new acting opportunities.
Bromley had been a member of the Emmerdale cast for eight years and has since expressed interest in exploring a broader range of acting roles, including potential work in period drama productions.
