A village pub has secured top honours in a regional competition, winning two separate accolades in a single year.
The Plough in Wigglesworth, a settlement of fewer than 400 residents, claimed both the overall title and the rural pub category in Sir Julian Smith’s Local Pub Awards 2026.
The recognition marks the second consecutive year the establishment has earned the rural distinction.
Jonathan Booth, who manages the venue, expressed gratitude upon receiving the dual recognition, stating that securing two awards simultaneously represented a remarkable achievement.
Booth extended appreciation to those who cast votes and praised the workforce for their sustained efforts throughout the preceding twelve months.
In the high street category, two Skipton establishments shared the accolade.
The Woolly Sheep Inn and The Castle Inn both received joint recognition for their contributions to the local hospitality sector.
The staff member category similarly produced joint recipients, with Tracy from the Helwith Bridge Inn situated in Horton-in-Ribblesdale alongside Roz and Calvin representing The Castle Inn in Skipton.
Throughout the summer period, residents throughout the constituency were afforded the opportunity to submit nominations and participate in voting for preferred establishments and personnel.
The initiative aimed to acknowledge the significant function that hospitality venues serve within local communities.
Nominations spanned four classifications encompassing best venue, high street venue, rural venue, and outstanding employee recognition.
Certificates have been dispatched to all recipients, and arrangements have been made for Sir Julian to present the awards directly at the winning establishment in Wigglesworth.
The annual competition continues to highlight the value that such venues hold for constituents across the region.
