West Yorkshire Police have issued a public warning following reports of suspicious individuals claiming to represent a telecommunications company targeting homes in Cleckheaton.
On Tuesday, residents contacted authorities after men arrived at properties requesting permission to inspect telephone lines and broadband services.
The individuals stated they were affiliated with BT or its infrastructure subsidiary Openreach.
Officers from the Batley and Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted searches in the area but failed to locate the group.
Those reported were described as wearing smart attire and estimated to be in their late teens to early twenties.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson indicated that enquiries failed to identify the whereabouts of the individuals, and their intentions remain unclear.
The spokesperson acknowledged that householders had exercised appropriate caution, with no reports of anyone granting the men entry to their residences.
The spokesperson advised that authorised personnel from utility companies and similar organisations carry identification which should be presented upon request.
Anyone uncertain about a visitor’s credentials should verify their employment by contacting the relevant company independently, avoiding any telephone numbers supplied by the individual themselves.
Detectives have requested that residents possessing CCTV recordings or doorbell camera footage from the incident forward the material to officers by telephoning 101 and citing reference 1507 dated September 15, 2026.
