A group of Year 8 students from Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College in Bradford received national recognition for their poetry entries.
The pupils were honoured in the Young Writers competition, an annual event established in 2001 that encourages creative writing among those aged 11 to 18.
Four pupils from BBEC earned publication in the national anthology: Kelsey, George, Reon, and Casey.
In a statement, Kelsey described poetry as an outlet for emotions and personal expression.
The publication of her work had boosted her confidence and demonstrated that dedication yields results.
The school’s English department guided students through the creative process.
Educators encouraged imaginative thinking and provided mentorship throughout the writing stages.
Mr McKenney, an English instructor at the college who coordinates the competition entry process, highlighted the value of allowing students creative freedom.
He explained that poetry benefits from the absence of rigid parameters, enabling young people to articulate their identities and beliefs without concerns about mistakes or assessment criteria.
Headteacher Mr Taylor commended the quartet for combining natural ability with sustained effort.
He said the institution nurtures aspiration and ambition among its pupils, and that their achievement reflected these values.
BBEC supports young people in discovering and developing their abilities through participation in national initiatives such as this competition.
