The passing of a West Yorkshire Police officer has prompted an outpouring of commemorations from fellow officers and members of the public.

PC Dominic Clegg served with West Yorkshire Police in various capacities across Bradford and Leeds before transitioning to a position within the learning and organisational development division at the force’s headquarters situated at Carr Gate in Wakefield.

The father of two children died after what supporters described as a courageous struggle with mental health difficulties.

The West Yorkshire Police Federation formally acknowledged the loss of the officer, expressing profound sadness at the news.

A representative for the federation conveyed that the sudden death had come as a devastating blow to the organisation.

The officer had earned significant respect among his peers, and the federation’s thoughts were extended to his entire family, social circle, and professional colleagues.

Details regarding memorial arrangements had not been finalised at the time of reporting, though an official announcement was expected to be published via the force’s online platforms once arrangements were confirmed.

Ruthie Clegg, the officer’s spouse, published an emotional message through social media channels.

In her statement, she described how circumstances had taken an unforeseen direction and that she had experienced an irreplaceable loss requiring significant time for recovery.

She indicated her intention to withdraw temporarily to be present with her family while preparing for the period ahead.

A crowdfunding initiative was established by Hannah Cooper, a former member of the police service who subsequently founded the organisation Silence Between Sirens, with the purpose of generating financial assistance for PC Clegg’s dependants.

According to information provided by the campaign organiser, Ruthie Clegg and her two children experienced the devastating loss of their husband and father on 12 September 2026 following his determined fight against mental illness.

The campaign description characterised the officer as a cherished individual whose passing created a void impossible to comprehend for those nearest to him.

Organisers expressed hope that the policing community, broader emergency services network, and general public would unite to reduce some of the economic strain facing the family, thereby enabling Ruthie Clegg to concentrate on her children during their mourning period.

The campaign had accumulated donations exceeding eight thousand pounds at the time of publication.

Silence Between Sirens was established by Ms Cooper following her sixteen-year tenure in law enforcement.

The organisation’s stated objective involves ensuring that emergency service employees can obtain mental health assistance and feel secure in communicating their struggles when experiencing personal difficulties.

The West Yorkshire Police Federation additionally urged individuals impacted by PC Clegg’s passing to pursue available assistance.

Guidance issued by the federation recommended that those affected should engage in conversations with their supervisory officers, fellow team members, local federation representatives, or utilise the range of support resources accessible through the force’s internal network.
