Keighley’s only agricultural show returns for 69th year

The annual Keighley and District Agricultural Show attracted visitors from throughout the nation to Marley Fields on Saturday, September 5.

Organisers confirmed the event represented the largest gathering of its kind in the town.

The celebration featured livestock exhibitions, horticultural presentations, flower arrangement competitions, terrier racing and additional entertainment throughout the day.

Over 70 trading stalls from local enterprises lined the venue, offering visitors a diverse range of goods and services.

William Mitchell, who serves as both organiser and president of the show, noted that attendance figures demonstrated strong community support for the annual occasion.

The gathering had grown significantly since the pandemic period, with increased participation recorded in recent editions.

The occasion marked its 69th anniversary this year, establishing it as the final remaining agricultural exhibition within the Bradford district following the cancellation of the Bingley Show after Covid restrictions ended.

Financial assistance from Keighley Town Council had enabled organisers to maintain affordable admission prices while continuing operations.

Mr Mitchell’s family had maintained involvement with the event across multiple generations.

His father was among the original founders of the show and had reached 92 years of age.

Mr Mitchell himself had held the position of chairman for 15 years before assuming the presidential role this season.

A quadbike stunt performance in the central arena provided new entertainment for attendees this year.

The addition proved popular with crowds and received positive feedback from those present.

The performer had been rebooked for future events based on the reception received.

Organisers acknowledged the contributions of staff members and volunteers whose efforts made the celebration possible.

Additional helpers were welcomed to join the existing team.

Preparations had already commenced for the following year’s programme.

A sheep exhibition had been scheduled, alongside the return of the popular terrier racing which attracted participants willing to enter their own animals.

The next Keighley and District Agricultural Show would be held on Saturday, September 4, 2027.
