A commemorative day dedicated to generosity is being observed to honour a celebrated country music artist and her vision for childhood literacy.
Programmes associated with the Imagination Library throughout the Bradford area are participating in the inaugural Give Like Dolly Day, scheduled for September 25.
The event recognises Dolly Parton and her enduring dedication to providing every child with the opportunity to develop reading skills.
The Imagination Library, established by Ms Parton, distributes complimentary books on a monthly basis to children below the age of five.
A representative for the three Imagination Library initiatives operating in Bradford indicated that members of the public were being invited to take part in Give Like Dolly Day on Friday, September 25, and to assist organisations conducting valuable work for children in their own localities, beginning with neighbourhood Dolly Parton Imagination Library programmes.
Within Bradford, hundreds of young children receive books each month through various local schemes.
The Canterbury Imagine programme provides funding for 500 books monthly, distributed in Little Horton, Canterbury, and Manningham.
The Baildon Imagination Library operates under the coordination of Councillor Debbie Davies alongside voluntary trustees.
The Imagination Library initiative in Keighley was suspended earlier this year as a consequence of insufficient funding.
Helen Jones, who chairs the Keighley scheme and serves as headteacher at Strong Close Nursery School, stated that the programme urgently needed to resume operations, as its impact on local children had been demonstrably positive.
