Bradford trader claims foul meat smell driving customers away from city centre

A Bradford trader has said an ongoing unpleasant odour affecting sections of the city centre is deterring visitors and harming the area’s standing.

Imran Khan operates IK Collections on Leeds Road and reports that the aroma has grown more noticeable in recent years, affecting both commercial operations and local residents.

His remarks follow an investigation launched by Bradford Council into persistent reports of offensive smells throughout the city centre.

Describing the impact on his enterprise, Khan mentioned that one longstanding customer with a sinus complaint has chosen to stay away during hotter periods.

Another individual entered the premises, assumed the source originated from the establishment, and immediately departed.

A colleague experiencing respiratory difficulties also reported discomfort when the odour intensified.

Characterising the scent, Khan stated it bore similarities to decomposing flesh.

He suggested the problem stems from industrial operations in the surrounding region, though an official origin remains undetermined.

The smell reportedly recurs in a consistent manner.

Khan expressed concerns regarding the future viability of nearby enterprises and called for those connected to the issue to communicate directly with affected businesses and residents.

He voiced aspirations for a cleaner city environment and stated that commercial operations in the area remain open despite the difficulties.

Bradford Council has acknowledged awareness of the situation through Councillor Ian Walker, the Executive Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities.

The local authority has committed to conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise origin of the persistent odours and pledged to pursue enforcement measures against any parties found to be contributing to the problem.

The council noted recent improvements to the city centre and expressed expectation that businesses operating in the area support efforts to ensure Bradford remains an attractive destination for visitors and commerce.
