Six trees at Todmorden care home approved for removal due to poor condition

Published on

Six trees located at a residential care facility in Todmorden have received approval for removal due to their deteriorated condition.

Calderdale planning authorities sanctioned the application submitted for Pennine Lodge Care Home situated on Burnley Road.

The trees form part of a collective tree preservation order, meaning formal authorisation is mandatory before any removal can occur.

The request was filed by Associated Wellbeing Limited, and Calderdale Council’s planning department has now granted approval.

An assessment prepared by arboricultural and ecological specialists JCA Limited classified three of the trees as requiring urgent attention and should be prioritised for removal.

The assessment addresses the maintenance and management requirements for 74 trees situated throughout the care home grounds.

Each of the six trees included in the application was evaluated by the arboriculturist as inappropriate for retention given their unsatisfactory condition.

According to the assessment, these trees have deteriorated to such an extent that they cannot feasibly remain viable living specimens within the context of the present land use for more than a decade.

The approved work must be completed within a two-year timeframe.

The consent does not diminish the statutory protections extended to nesting birds, bats and other safeguarded species.

The applicant bears responsibility for ensuring adherence to all applicable wildlife regulations before commencing the works.

The planning decision does not eliminate the necessity for obtaining any additional permissions or approvals that may be required.
