A significant amount of discarded waste has been discovered obstructing a public right of way across moorland in the Bradford district.
The obstruction was brought to attention when a person exercising their dog came across the large accumulation of illegally dumped material blocking the route at Keighley Gate, which lies in proximity to Ilkley Road.
The deposited refuse consists of damaged household furnishings, timber, containers of paint, organic garden matter, and sacks containing general domestic refuse.
A resident from the local area expressed concern regarding the situation, describing the accumulation as situated at the upper section of Keighley Gate on the expanse of Ilkley Moor.
The individual noted that the discarded material entirely prevents passage along the track crossing the moorland.
The resident characterised the incident as thoroughly unacceptable.
Attempts were made to bring the matter to the attention of Bradford Council.
The local resident connected the occurrence to the broader consequences of the closure of household waste disposal facilities.
Bradford Council confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
A representative for the authority stated that the council’s Environmental Enforcement Team has been notified of the illegal dumping and that evidence has been collected from the location.
The representative indicated that enquiries are progressing with the aim of establishing the identity of those responsible and that enforcement measures will be pursued where feasible.
Arrangements have also been made for the removal of the discarded material at the earliest opportunity.
Keighley Gate carries the alternative designation of Whetstone Gate and is situated in the vicinity of the Whetstone Gate telecommunications installation.
