A commercial structure could be demolished to make room for more than fifty residential units should city councillors give the green light to the scheme.

Leeds City Council has received paperwork requesting the removal of Oak Tree House, situated on Oakwood Lane in Gipton.

The project would deliver 52 new dwellings at the site following a planning submission made by Bauer Group.

According to a design document, the scheme would supply budget-friendly accommodation for the east Leeds area.

The document noted that the proposed construction presents a modern solution addressing housing demands in Gipton.

The properties would include controlled entry systems, dedicated parking spaces, private gardens at ground level and communal external terraces.

The document added that the planned development would sit close to public transport options and a green area maintained by the council.

It said the proposal would deliver 52 affordable units over three storeys and overhaul the grounds to provide communal parking for residents.

The site is considered sustainable, positioned within a few hundred metres of several bus stops running regular services into the city and the nearby hospital.

Leeds City Council is examining a full planning submission, with residents able to comment until May 6.
