A bakery in Bradford has shut its doors to carry out renovations after a mouse infestation resulted in multiple items being pulled from shelves, with customers advised to avoid consuming them.
The Food Standards Agency initially disclosed on Monday that Saffron Pastries was withdrawing 25 distinct types of baked goods due to possible rodent contamination.
An amendment followed on Tuesday adjusting the expiration information for five of the recalled items.
The recall announcement stated that the products were being removed from sale because of physical contamination caused by pests, which could endanger consumers.
What has the council said?
A representative from Bradford Council verified that enquiries were in progress following a recent visit by an Environmental Health Officer to the establishment.
According to the spokesperson, an Environmental Health Officer visited the premises at Westend St, Bradford, BD1 2PN, and the company decided to voluntarily cease operations at its food production facility while making structural enhancements.
The choice to remove food items from sale was taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard public health.
Refunds to be provided
The FSA has cautioned any customers who obtained the affected goods, listed below, against consuming them as they have been deemed unsafe to eat.
Complete reimbursements will be available to anyone who purchased the cakes and biscuits.
An FSA statement indicated that Saffron Pastries was recalling the aforementioned branded items.
Notices will be posted at retail locations selling these products, explaining to customers the reason for the recall and providing instructions on how to proceed if they had purchased the items.
Anyone who has bought the listed products should not consume them but should instead return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
