Plans to transform a former hairdressing shop into a café serving hot meals have been given the go-ahead.

Leeds City Council approved the change of use application for the vacant commercial unit situated on Pudsey Road within the Bramley district.

The scheme includes installing an extraction duct at the rear of the building, which houses a flat on the floor above.

A study conducted by LS Design and Planning indicated that new features such as signage on the converted premises would enhance the local area.

The study found that the development honors the area’s character and benefits from current access routes, parking facilities and waste disposal systems.

For the ventilation arrangement, it will be placed at the maximum possible distance from the living quarters in the apartments above, with a dual silencer system being fitted.

A council planning paper observed that the site is surrounded by commercial operations, among them an existing pizzeria, a laundry service and a betting shop.

A planning assessment required that soundproofing be fitted in the ceiling of the new food business.

The planning paper added that the location is deemed sustainable with convenient access to local services and public transportation options.
