A couple from Bradford have turned a lifelong ambition into reality by converting a former library into a cafe bar.
Jeremy and Lindsay Sutton, aged 65 and 51 respectively, recently acquired the premises on Wrose Road.
The pair, who spent considerable time in the pub trade, explained they had long envisioned running their own establishment combining cafe and bar facilities.
The venue holds particular significance for Mr Sutton, as it previously housed Wrose Library where he spent his childhood.
Jeremy’s Cafe Bar began trading on March 7.
Remembering his mother
Mr Sutton told the Telegraph and Argus that his late mother, who died two years ago, had campaigned vigorously to preserve Wrose Library from closure.
Her efforts proved partially successful, extending the library’s lifespan before the building was eventually transformed into the current cafe venture.
A dedicated bookshelf section within the establishment serves as a tribute to his mother.
Menu offerings at Jeremy’s
The menu features classic breakfast items, paninis, baked potatoes and regularly changing daily specials.
Mr Sutton pointed out that the venue aims above standard cafe fare, describing it as a more refined establishment rather than a typical greasy spoon operation.
Satisfied customers have reportedly returned multiple times within the same day.
Breakfast pricing starts at £6.95 for smaller portions, rising to £8.95 for standard servings, with vegetarian options available at £7.95.
A selection of sandwiches, paninis, toasties and wraps including gluten-free alternatives are priced between £4.50 and £7.95, accompanied by coleslaw and crisps.
Additional offerings include pies, pasties and a dedicated children’s selection alongside an assortment of wines and five draft beers on tap.
Future plans
The couple intend to arrange wine and cheese evenings at the venue.
A VE Day celebration featuring performers in authentic period attire is also being arranged.
Mr Sutton expressed his hope that the cafe bar’s welcoming atmosphere and ongoing improvements would continue drawing new visitors.
