Police are investigating the robbery of a man who was assaulted while cycling in Birstall in the early hours of Saturday morning

The incident happened at around 3.30am on April 25 on Gelderd Road, close to the junction with Greenacres Drive. The victim, a man in his 40s, was approached by a group of three men and was kicked and punched before being robbed of his personal belongings.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the man was checked over by paramedics. He did not require hospital treatment.

Some of the victim’s property, including his bicycle, was later recovered nearby.

Description of suspects

The suspects are described as three men aged between 18 and 25 of slim build and around 5ft 8in tall. Police said all three were heard speaking with local accents.

One man is described as having short blond hair and wearing a grey hooded jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms. Another was described as having brown hair, short on the sides and longer on top, and wearing a tracksuit with a white top.

Appeal for information

Officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries in the area and are continuing to investigate.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Police are investigating the robbery of a man in Birstall in the early hours of Saturday morning (25 April).

“At around 3.30am, the victim, a man in his 40s, was cycling on Gelderd Road and was near the junction of Greenacres Drive when he was approached by three men. He was kicked and punched by the group and robbed of his personal belongings.

“The victim was checked over by paramedics but did not attend hospital. Some of the victim’s property, including his bike, were recovered nearby.

“The suspects are all described as men, aged between 18 and 25 years-old, of slim build, around 5ft 8ins tall. They were also described as having local accents. One of the men was further described as having short blond hair and wearing a grey hooded jacket and tracksuit bottoms and another was described as having brown hair that was short on the sides and longer on top and wearing a tracksuit and white top.
