A project from the University of Bradford has been featured in a new nationwide anthology released by the Key Cities Innovation Network.

The volume was recently issued as part of a study into how place-based innovation drives economic growth.

Bradford provided content for the Key Cities Innovation Network’s Innovation Ecosystems anthology, which explores how locally-sourced innovation aids economic development.

Professor Sherif El-Khamisy, holding the position of pro vice chancellor for research and innovation at the University of Bradford, explained that higher education institutions serve as essential establishments, carrying substantial significance for local, regional and national economies.

At the University of Bradford, this reciprocal relationship generates tangible advantages for neighbourhood residents, pupils, businesses, and government services.

Bradford’s contribution concentrated on supporting innovators across the regional economy through improved access to specialist knowledge, industry contacts, and financial resources.

One notable example highlighted was the Bradford-Renduchintala Enterprise Ecosystem (BREE), a programme managed by the University of Bradford that nurtures business ideas put forward by students, staff, and community members.

Professor El-Khamisy observed that the initiative illustrates the importance of firmly-established innovation, pointing out that this is most evident in the Bradford-Renduchintala Enterprise Ecosystem, where innovation is regarded as connected to a wider system that unites academic investigation, commercial growth, and community participation.

The Innovation Ecosystems anthology is being published today (Wednesday, April 29).
