A charity providing food assistance to the community around Bradford has been awarded £1,000 to help people experiencing urgent hardship.

Brighouse Central Foodbank was put forward for the donation by Lisa Fairbank from the local Yorkshire Building Society branch. The funding originated from the building society’s charitable foundation.

The money will be used to purchase essential food items for quick distribution to those requiring assistance.

Peter Jowett, branch manager for the Yorkshire Building Society in Brighouse, said the organisation was pleased to support the foodbank through the foundation’s contribution. He noted that the charity’s activities are vital for local residents, and this financial assistance would allow the foodbank to keep providing crucial support to those most in need. He added that the foodbank plays a significant role within the community, ensuring that vulnerable people receive the help and guidance they need.

The charity offers emergency food packages to individuals going through crises and connects them with services offering longer-term help.

Rachel Owens, who manages the foodbank, expressed gratitude for the donation from the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. She stated that it would enable the organisation to keep providing emergency support to some of the most vulnerable members of the local community. She emphasised that without such contributions, the foodbank would be unable to continue operating, making this support highly valued.
