Leeds Bradford Airport has achieved a major goal in its push toward environmental sustainability.
The airport’s recent securing of Level 4 certification through the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme recognises its commitment to cutting carbon emissions and making green improvements across all areas of its operations as part of the Together for Tomorrow programme.
Vincent Hodder, the chief executive of Leeds Bradford Airport, explained that obtaining Level 4 accreditation provides clear confirmation of the work being done through the Together for Tomorrow strategy. He noted that this accomplishment demonstrates the airport’s promise to change how it operates and to collaborate closely with partners to ensure aviation in Yorkshire has a sustainable future.
The accreditation covers more than just the airport’s own emissions and requires active engagement with outside partners including airlines, ground handling companies, and transport services.
The airport’s environmental strategy focuses on four core areas: Destination: Net Zero, Protecting Yorkshire, Connecting Communities, and Putting People First.
Significant measures include removing gas from the terminal building, generating renewable energy at the site, and supporting a £1.5 million research initiative looking at sustainable aviation fuel.
Leeds Bradford Airport is also progressing with its transformation through the LBA:REGEN project, which involves upgrading the terminal and £200 million in private capital investment.
