A plan to convert a retail space in a town centre into a round-the-clock convenience outlet has been abandoned.

Arsalan Sarkari and Hadi Shahsavar submitted a request to Calderdale Council to alter the function of the Silver Street premises in Halifax from a retail outlet to a 24-hour shop.

In their heritage assessment accompanying the submission, they indicated that substantial exterior alterations which could negatively impact the structure or its surroundings were not intended.

The local authority received six formal objections to the proposal, with worries centered on possible increases in disorderly conduct.

In contrast, among the bodies consulted on statutory matters, West Yorkshire Police raised no issues regarding either the proposed change in trading purpose or the extended operating hours.

Correspondence from the architectural firm to the council explained they had been counseled to pursue an application for 24-hour operations alongside the use modification.

However, subsequent discussions with council officials led them to retract their application at this stage.
