The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is urging businesses, schools, community groups and individuals across the region to paint the area yellow in support of its life-saving operations.

The charity’s annual Yellow Yorkshire initiative runs from July 6 to 12, prompting people to collect money and spread word about the cause by incorporating yellow into their activities.

Backers are encouraged to show imagination by adorning commercial premises and workplaces in yellow tones, arranging casual wear days, coordinating cake stalls, or establishing charity collections.

Tessa Klemz, the charity’s regional fundraising manager for North and East Yorkshire, explained that the campaign aims to unite communities in celebrating and supporting a service that serves all of Yorkshire.

Kelly Gorton and her loved ones toured the Nostell Air Support Base after the service’s medics treated her companion following a severe motorbike crash close to Ingleton.

She noted that regardless of the activity—whether a workplace casual day, shop window display, cake stall, or school participation—each effort helps highlight the charity and the critical care delivered daily by its teams.

The organisation reported impressive inventiveness from participants so far, expressing hope that additional businesses, educational institutions, and communities would participate in colouring Yorkshire yellow this month.

Twenty-eight groups have registered to participate, with numerous activities scheduled throughout the area. Meadowhall and White Rose retail complexes will glow yellow for the duration, while students at Forest View School in Rawmarsh intend to decorate lemons as part of their observances.

Inhabitants of Rowan Court Retirement Housing in Thirsk are arranging their own Yellow Yorkshire Games.

One participating family is contributing to fundraising and awareness after direct experience with the air ambulance personnel.

In the previous year, Kelly Gorton’s companion suffered a serious motorbike accident near Ingleton.

Ms Gorton, who resides in Burnley, stated that gaining insight into the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and witnessing the tangible impact the organisation has on families like hers motivated her to contribute.

She described the initiative as an accessible way for people to engage, noting the enthusiasm from local schools and childcare centres joining their efforts.

Her offspring, Archie and Mia, have enjoyed taking part and the family anticipates seeing extensive yellow displays throughout the period.

She emphasised that one cannot predict when emergency services might be required, making support for the organisation crucial.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance depends wholly on voluntary contributions to sustain its work.
