A coin worth 50 pence that showcases a popular character from fiction is fetching almost eight thousand pounds on an internet marketplace.

The listing on eBay comes from a vendor based in the NR5 area of Norwich and carries a price tag of £7,986.70 for the piece, which displays Benjamin Bunny artwork from the 2017 Beatrix Potter series.

The currency was crafted by creative director Emma Noble and presents the rabbit illustration on the reverse side alongside Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

Although the seller is seeking this substantial sum, the Royal Mint classifies the item as commonplace since there are twenty-five million identical copies currently in existence.

The broader series also encompasses renditions of Peter Rabbit, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten.

This marks the second Beatrix Potter-themed series released by the Royal Mint, following an initial five-coin set in 2016 that showcased a Beatrix Potter Anniversary design along with Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Squirrel Nutkin.

In 2018, four additional coins entered general circulation featuring Peter Rabbit for the third consecutive year, alongside Flopsy Bunny, Mrs Tittlemouse and The Tailor of Gloucester.
