Former neighbourhood hub set for revamp following council sale to boost funds

A site previously housing a community centre may be given new purpose following its sale to generate funds for the local authority.

A parcel of land in Bramley that once contained Wyther Park Community Centre is set to go under the hammer.

Leeds City Council confirmed the location at Hall Way and Raynville Road was no longer needed and had become too expensive to upkeep.

A council document stated that selling the property via public auction would provide the authority with a capital sum.

Some of the grounds had already been transformed into residential development after the community facility shut its doors in 2008.

The document noted that this development involved building Hall Way, which now cuts through the middle portion of the former centre grounds.

The rest of the land consists of open lawned areas currently serviced by the council.

The authority indicated it would assume control of Hall Way, presently an unadopted road, once enhancement work on the thoroughfare had concluded.

The document stated that once these works were satisfactorily finished, the road would be taken over automatically.

The property would not be offered for sale until these improvements had been carried out and the adoption procedure was finalized.

The document indicated that ward councillors had been consulted and no concerns were submitted, while the proposed sale was also publicised.

It stated that the disposal should enable the land to be redeveloped and help generate jobs during construction and subsequent occupancy.

The sale is projected to be finalized during the 2026/27 financial year.
