A public consultation has been launched seeking local input on transportation plans for the York and North Yorkshire region that are set to shape infrastructure and spending through to 2050.
Skipton and Ripon representative Sir Julian Smith has encouraged constituents to engage with the draft Mayor’s Local Transport Plan consultation process.
According to the MP, transportation matters consistently feature among the top concerns raised by local residents, encompassing road maintenance issues, public bus provision, vehicular safety, medical appointment accessibility, and railway connectivity across the constituency.
Smith emphasised that the consultation period offered residents throughout Skipton and Ripon a meaningful chance to contribute perspectives on the long-term direction of transportation planning in their corner of North Yorkshire.
He noted that policy choices made during this phase could determine investment allocations and strategic priorities for generations, and therefore urged individual constituents, commercial enterprises, community associations, and civic institutions to dedicate time to completing the questionnaire.
The local representative highlighted that the Skipton and Ripon constituency presented distinctive circumstances, especially for populations residing in countryside areas away from urban centres, and stressed that such considerations must be incorporated into the planning framework.
The consultation document outlines proposals covering highway and railway upgrades, enhanced public bus networks, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, road safety initiatives, and strengthened connections to regional centres and cities.
The strategy also seeks to improve accessibility to employment opportunities, medical facilities, and educational institutions, with heightened attention given to rural settlements.
The consultation window extends until November 4, with responses accepted through the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority’s online platform.
