A parcel delivery firm that originated in Bradford is understood to have encountered widespread delays affecting collections from retail outlets and Post Office locations throughout the United Kingdom as it implements modifications to its pickup infrastructure.
Interruptions to Evri’s collection services have resulted in an increasing accumulation of parcels within ParcelShop locations, with shipments remaining in stores for multiple days, according to reports.
The difficulties are believed to stem from a comprehensive restructuring of Evri’s distribution network, which involves transitioning from larger regional distribution facilities to more compact community-based operations.
Sources indicate that Evri is implementing measures to address the backlog, including deploying additional drivers and establishing reduced collection routes designed to improve van loading capacity.
Evri, headquartered in Leeds, operates as the nation’s largest specialist parcel delivery business.
The company was established as Grattan Mail Order in Bradford in 1974, initially employing just seven delivery personnel.
The organisation is reportedly introducing in excess of 100 new pickup routes alongside approximately 330 additional sweeper vehicles as part of its remediation strategy.
The company maintains more than 11,000 ParcelShop and locker locations, alongside in excess of 500 delivery hubs, distribution centres and operational units.
In excess of 9,000 of these ParcelShop locations are situated within independent businesses throughout the country, while numerous Post Office branches also provide Evri collection and drop-off services.
The group, formerly a component of the Hermes parcel network, was acquired by American private equity organisation Apollo for approximately £2.7 billion in 2024, subsequently combining with DHL eCommerce UK during 2025.
The company has experienced substantial growth in recent years and now employs more than 12,000 staff members alongside more than 30,000 independent delivery drivers, collectively handling annual volumes exceeding one billion parcels.
Representatives for Evri have been approached for a response to the situation.
