A bakery in the Frizinghall area of Bradford has been selected as one of the finalists in a regional best bakery contest.

House of Bread operates from premises on Bradford Road and has built a reputation for attracting customers in all weather conditions, according to its proprietors.

The establishment is owned jointly by five siblings, with Sara Laszkowski among the co-owners.

The business commenced trading in March 2017 and has expanded from its origins as a home-baking venture to a fully operational retail bakery.

The enterprise traces its roots to the sibling’s mother Barbara, who cultivated a tradition of baking within the family.

Homemade cakes featured prominently at family gatherings, with numerous recipes subsequently inherited and still utilised in current production.

The initial focus on sourdough for personal consumption and gifts expanded as neighbourhood demand grew, eventually leading to supplying nearby retail outlets before the opening of dedicated premises.

The founders embarked on their venture after searching unsuccessfully for a sourdough loaf prepared using only flour, water and salt.

The current range encompasses eleven distinct sourdough varieties alongside an assortment of hand-crafted pastries produced in limited quantities.

Polish culinary traditions influence many items on offer, including jagodzianki, a sweet bun containing blueberry filling, alongside flavours drawn from the owners’ upbringing.

The proprietors describe themselves as enthusiastic about global cuisine and maintain a commitment to producing food meeting their own exacting standards.

experimentation with new products continues, though all items must satisfy stringent quality requirements before reaching customers.

The customer base plays a central role in the business’s operations.

Visitors regularly queue along the street to purchase weekly bread supplies and sweet offerings, with queues extending to the street’s full length during peak periods.

The proprietors have expressed appreciation for ongoing community support throughout their trading history.
