A frequently overlooked dashboard feature has drawn widespread attention after motorists discovered a small directional symbol pointing to their vehicle’s fuel cap location.
The arrow, positioned beside the fuel pump icon on the instrument cluster, clearly indicates whether the tank opening sits on the left or right side of the car.
Despite its presence for years across most manufacturers’ models, numerous road users claim to have never spotted the indicator until recently.
Motoring specialist Mark Reece from Rev Monkey UK observed that the discovery has resonated with many drivers.
He noted that numerous individuals have contacted the organisation sharing that they had operated vehicles for extended periods, sometimes spanning decades, without being aware of the symbol’s existence.
The oversight frequently results in vehicles being positioned incorrectly at filling stations, necessitating inconvenient adjustments or extending fuel hoses across car bodies to reach the tank.
The indicator has appeared as standard equipment in the majority of automobiles for a considerable duration, yet it remains largely unrecognised by the general driving public.
