Bingley Grammar School will remain shut on its scheduled opening day following infrastructure failures that created safety concerns for pupils.
The educational institution on Keighley Road in Bingley, which falls within the Bradford local authority area, had been due to welcome students for the first time this academic year on September 2.
However, headteacher Luke Weston confirmed that the school would not be opening to pupils as planned.
According to a communication sent to families, the site has experienced electrical faults affecting multiple areas of the premises.
Additionally, the telephone network across the school has ceased to function, and internet connectivity has been lost entirely.
School leaders determined that these combined issues presented unacceptable risks to both child protection protocols and general safety requirements.
All pupils across every year group will therefore be absent from the premises on September 2, with the institution set to resume normal operations on September 3.
Any activities originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday will instead be rearranged for Thursday.
Students in Years 8 through 11 will participate in an extended registration session between 8:30am and 10:00am on September 3, during which timetables and other essential information will be distributed.
Those joining Year 7 should proceed to the N6 facility upon their arrival at 8:30am on September 3.
The headteacher acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the last-minute closure and explained that efforts to resolve the technical difficulties had been ongoing before the decision to shut the school was made.
Parents and guardians were thanked in advance for their understanding and cooperation during this period.
