Bradford Alternative Provision Achieves 82.4% Attendance Rate

Published on

Since launching its provision more than twelve months ago, Link AP Academy has firmly established itself within Bradford’s alternative education sector.

The institution now serves as a significant resource for the city, maintaining attendance levels that substantially exceed typical rates found across alternative provision settings nationally.

The organisation operates from a core belief that young people requiring an alternative educational setting deserve instruction of equivalent quality to that available in mainstream schools.

Since May 2025, the academy has engaged with over sixty-five young people originating from approximately twenty-five educational institutions throughout Bradford.

Current attendance figures stand at 82.4 per cent, a marked contrast to the 52 per cent national average recorded for alternative provision settings during 2024.

Responses gathered from students, their families and partner schools have indicated strong satisfaction with the support and education provided.

Recognition has arrived swiftly for the young institution.

The Business Power Awards honoured the organisation as Social Enterprise of the Year for 2025.

At the Telegraph and Argus Education Awards, Link AP Academy received the designation of Specialist Provision School of the Year for 2026.

The Yorkshire Prestige Awards presented the honour of Alternative Provision of the Year, while an individual staff member secured the Most Influential Staff Member accolade at the Alterna Prestige Awards.

The educational approach prioritises focused, targeted delivery.

Qualified educators present a curriculum mirroring mainstream requirements, encompassing English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science, delivered within reduced class sizes.

Simultaneously, pupils benefit from structured support addressing social, emotional and psychological wellbeing, alongside individualised learning routes developed from initial assessment data.

Chelsea Wright, serving as Head of Centres, oversees a philosophy centring pastoral welfare.

Staff have cultivated environments characterised by tranquility and organisation, where dependable routines and explicit standards enable young people to develop the security necessary for effective learning.

The operational hierarchy, as articulated by the staff group, places stabilisation as the primary objective, followed by advancement and finally the achievement of constructive progression pathways.

As the 2026/27 academic year commences, the provision continues its expansion.

The academy now functions across three distinct Bradford locations.

A Key Stage 3 centre addresses pupil re-engagement and eventual return to mainstream educational environments, while a Key Stage 4 facility supports those pursuing qualifications and planning post-sixteen transitions.

The newly established Link Hub offers dedicated space for assessments, professional consultations, collaboration with partner schools and staff training, enhancing the cooperative framework underpinning each young person’s educational journey.

Personnel have expanded to a group of ten, encompassing qualified teachers, practitioners with primary and secondary background experience, pastoral care professionals and youth workers.

Resources have been directed toward facilities enhancement, assessment methodologies and a purpose-built transport operation offering door-to-door collection and delivery for numerous young people, addressing a frequently cited practical obstacle to regular school attendance.

The fundamental objective, according to the academy, has remained consistent: to re-engage, reintegrate and reconnect young people with educational opportunities.

Rather than functioning as a replacement for mainstream institutions, the provision operates collaboratively alongside them, ensuring pupils maintain their connection to education during periods when standard school environments prove unsuitable for their needs.

What commenced as a single establishment has developed into a provision relied upon by schools throughout the district, with interest from Bradford’s mainstream educational settings continuing to grow.

For a city experiencing expansion within its younger school-age demographic, access to high-calibre alternative provision holds considerable significance.

Link AP Academy’s guiding purpose stays straightforward: sustaining young people’s connection to education, facilitating successful reintegration wherever feasible and enabling every young person to advance toward constructive next stages.
