A medical professional working for the National Health Service has faced court proceedings regarding allegations of expressing support for a designated terrorist organisation through online platforms.
Dr Rehiana Ali, aged 46 and originating from Bradford, stood before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday in connection with accusations of promoting racial hatred.
Court proceedings heard that Ali is claimed to have displayed backing for Hamas across three separate entries on the social media platform X alongside one communication via WhatsApp during the period spanning October 2024 through March 2025.
Four charges have been brought against her, each concerning the expression of views or convictions intended to promote a prohibited group, alongside allegations of careless disregard for whether such statements might foster endorsement of Hamas.
Seven further charges relate to allegations that she disseminated written content with the intention of inciting racial hatred.
Appearing without legal representation, Ali entered no plea to the accusations, describing them as politically motivated according to court reporting.
District Judge Sam Goozee scheduled the next hearing at the Central Criminal Court for September 25 and granted unconditional bail pending that appearance.
Members of the public watching the proceedings from the gallery responded by shouting remarks directed at the judge, which resulted in their removal from the courtroom.
Ali contested the 2024 general election as an Independent contender, securing 3,345 votes while placing fifth among candidates in the Bradford South constituency.
Her parliamentary campaign centred on a message that read It should be Britain First not Israel First.
The defendant holds qualifications from the University of Cambridge and has earned a doctorate in Neurosciences from Imperial College London.
Her professional experience encompasses more than two decades as a registered medical practitioner in Britain, having held her current consultant position since November 2016.
