Four charged with murder of newborn baby girl in Sheffield

Prosecutors have authorised murder charges against four individuals in connection with the death of a baby girl born recently.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a residence in the Wincobank district of Sheffield, specifically at Holywell Heights, after receiving alerts about an infant’s welfare on Sunday.

A post-mortem examination carried out by forensic specialists established that the newborn sustained fatal stab wounds.

South Yorkshire Police’s Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward stated that the charges represented a significant milestone in the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.

He expressed gratitude to local residents affected by the distressing events and requested that members of the public refrain from discussing the case on social media platforms while legal proceedings are underway.

Woodward emphasised that maintaining the integrity of the judicial process is essential to achieving a just outcome for the child.

Those facing prosecution include Andrea Skopova, aged 20, along with Peter Horvath aged 19, a second man named Peter Horvath aged 38, and Nina Horvathova aged 37.

Each individual faces three counts: murder, homicide through negligence or omission in relation to a minor, and attempting to obstruct justice.

All four suspects remain detained and have been scheduled to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Additionally, a teenager aged 15 has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Two women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously detained on suspicion of murder, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Lauren Costello, representing the Crown Prosecution Service in Yorkshire and Humberside as deputy chief crown prosecutor, reminded all parties that court proceedings are active and the accused retain entitlement to a fair trial.

She stressed that no reporting, commentary or information sharing online should occur in a manner that could potentially prejudice the upcoming legal matters.

Enquiries into the incident continue.
