A charitable athletic challenge spanning a full day will see hundreds of healthcare workers from across West Yorkshire unite for a fundraising initiative.
The 24-Hour Therapy Dash is scheduled for September 18, bringing together NHS personnel from four regional hospital trusts to participate in running, rowing, and cycling activities.
Proceeds will support charitable projects at each participating organisation.
Staff members representing Bradford, Calderdale, Huddersfield, Leeds, and Mid Yorkshire NHS trusts will raise funds for their respective hospital charities.
The event originated at a Bradford trust facility in 2025 and has since expanded to involve neighbouring healthcare organisations throughout the region.
According to the physiotherapy spinal team leader coordinating the Bradford leg of the challenge, last year’s inaugural event demonstrated the impact achievable when NHS colleagues collaborate for charitable purposes.
The initial therapy dash generated substantial donations for hospital charity initiatives while highlighting the importance of physical activity.
This year’s event has been expanded significantly, with participation growing substantially compared to the 2025 launch.
The coordinator expressed satisfaction that numerous dedicated colleagues from across the region have committed to taking part.
Funds channelled through hospital charities typically support ventures outside standard NHS budgets, such as specialised medical equipment, research programmes, enhancements to patient facilities, and supplementary services for individuals and relatives receiving care.
In the previous edition, a group of approximately 60 staff members from Bradford collected more than £4,000 for Bradford Hospitals Charity.
The team collectively covered over 1,030 kilometres, a distance comparable to travelling from Bradford to Berlin.
With participation levels exceeding three times those of the inaugural year, current entrants are targeting considerably greater cumulative distances.
The director of Bradford Hospitals Charity expressed admiration for the organiser and all involved in planning and competing in an undertaking of this magnitude.
Healthcare professionals demonstrate that compassion extends beyond their contracted hours, with a genuine dedication to enhancing wellbeing both within and beyond their professional responsibilities.
Funds generated will enable hospital charities throughout West Yorkshire to finance initiatives delivering tangible benefits for patients, families, and staff members.
A fitness equipment provider is sponsoring the Bradford participants by supplying necessary gear at no cost.
