A charitable organisation based in West Yorkshire has secured a £5,000 donation after finishing as runner-up in a fundraising competition associated with a major horse racing event.
Kirklees Theatre Trust earned the sum through its second-place finish in the Sky Bet Ebor Festival Community Sweepstake, an initiative developed jointly by betting firm Sky Bet and York Racecourse.
The competition matches registered charities with horses competing in the Ebor, with prize money distributed according to finishing positions.
Sky Betting & Gaming’s head of sports public relations Michael Shinners offered congratulations to the three highest-placed charities.
According to the company representative, the organisations selected for the leading positions carry out valuable work throughout the region, and the donations should assist them in continuing their efforts.
The initiative has demonstrated significant positive effects over time.
Help 4 Homeless Veterans, an organisation operating in South Yorkshire, claimed the £20,000 first prize after the horse paired with the charity, Daiquiri Bay, crossed the line first in a photo finish outcome.
Equine Pathways finished third and received £2,000.
All remaining charities included on the shortlist were granted £1,000 each to support their respective causes.
