Bingley Grammar School in Bradford was forced to remain closed to pupils on the opening day of the new academic year after essential maintenance work ran over schedule.
The school, located on Keighley Road in Bingley, shut its doors on Wednesday but resumed normal operations the following day.
Luke Weston, the headteacher at Bingley Grammar School, publicly apologised through social media for the disruption caused to families.
He confirmed that all operational systems had been restored by Wednesday evening, enabling the school to welcome students back on Thursday morning.
The closure was attributed to major infrastructure improvements carried out during the summer break.
Works carried out across the site included continuing roof repairs and construction of a new building on the school field.
The most substantial project involved the installation of a replacement electricity sub-station.
National Grid managed this critical electrical work, which commenced on 26 August and extended through the bank holiday weekend.
The school’s own information technology and site teams provided assistance throughout the process.
School officials stated they were unable to negotiate alternative timings for the electricity sub-station transition.
By Tuesday, it had become apparent that the electrical systems, telephone lines and information technology networks could not be fully restored in time for a safe reopening on Wednesday.
Staff members dedicated Wednesday to completing the restoration of all essential services, which allowed the school to function normally when it reopened the next day.
The headteacher expressed gratitude to parents and carers for their patience and continued backing during the situation.
