Local residents have disputed allegations that football supporters are discarding waste into private gardens in the vicinity of Valley Parade.
A backlash emerged after Manningham councillor Muhammad Haseeb Khan reported that householders had reached out regarding refuse connected to Bradford City home fixtures.
Councillor Khan raised the matter during a Bradford Council Bradford West Area Committee gathering, asserting that Manningham Lane becomes affected by litter dropped by Bradford City followers during the football campaign.
He noted that while residents are encouraged to take responsibility for their neighbourhoods, those living in adjacent streets claim spectators are depositing refuse in their gardens.
Bradford City’s Mbanq Stadium operates within Manningham, with fans journeying along Manningham Lane originating from central Bradford.
Several paths wind through residential zones.
Numerous responders contested the notion that supporters bore responsibility for the area’s condition.
Chris Parker explained that he traverses the location on every match day and had witnessed no individuals discarding items in external spaces.
Michael Dalby indicated that sections of the neighbourhood were not well-maintained regardless of whether City were hosting games, questioning whether many supporters would be carrying sofas on their shoulders to engage in illegal dumping.
Jen Stratton mentioned attending every home fixture without observing any supporters discarding refuse in gardens.
Andrea Thirkill observed that unfortunately the thoroughfares leading towards Valley Parade are cluttered with waste, which subsequently motivates others to participate.
Darren S Line inquired why monitoring equipment had not been positioned to identify those responsible for depositing the rubbish, noting the logic behind such a measure.
Some responses examined whether the council and local population were directing excessive attention towards supporters.
Additional remarks featured humorous references to white goods, mattresses and furnishings supposedly abandoned in the area rather than items transported by match-goers.
Craig Buchan offered a tongue-in-cheek remark about a mattress accidentally falling.
Bradley Keiron stated the situation exists universally rather than exclusively in Bradford, proposing that additional receptacles positioned throughout streets might encourage proper use, and questioned why the council’s failure to provide sufficient bins was not being addressed.
Regarding a substantial illegal waste accumulation on Midland Road, Paul Conroy observed that a complete dumping ground had appeared on that street, yet the sole activity drawing visitors to the city centre was being blamed.
