A housing provider has been recognised for its dedication to supporting LGBTQ+ communities through the award of Pioneer status under a national inclusion scheme.
Manningham Housing Association, which oversees more than 1,400 residential properties in Bradford and Keighley, has obtained the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge Pioneer accreditation in acknowledgment of its initiatives to establish secure, supportive, and inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ tenants.
The certification remains in effect until 2028 and highlights MHA’s work to integrate equality, diversity, and inclusion principles across its governance frameworks, employee development programmes, and outreach activities.
The accreditation followed an extensive evaluation process conducted by Stonewall Housing alongside HouseProud, an organisation that assists social housing providers in enhancing outcomes for LGBTQ+ residents.
Lee Bloomfield, chief executive at MHA, expressed pride in achieving the designation, stating that the recognition represents a commitment to ensuring LGBTQ+ residents experience safety, stability, and a sense of belonging within the MHA community.
Bloomfield added that the accreditation confirms the organisation is taking concrete steps, actively listening to tenant feedback, and providing quality services in neighbourhoods where individuals can live authentically.
Providers seeking the status must fulfil three fundamental requirements: incorporating LGBTQ+ residents into governance processes, enhancing LGBTQ+ representation, and implementing targeted staff development.
MHA’s application contained evidence drawn from across the organisation, demonstrating how inclusion principles are embedded within its strategic direction, workforce training initiatives, and collaborative partnerships.
The evaluation panel characterised MHA’s submission as comprehensive, carefully prepared, and robust across multiple dimensions, factoring in the organisation’s scale, regional position, and local circumstances.
Panel members also commended MHA’s recognition of intersectionality and the ways in which different forms of disadvantage can intersect and influence residents’ experiences.
The panel recommended that MHA expand efforts to create additional platforms for LGBTQ+ residents from marginalised communities to share their perspectives.
The assessment additionally noted MHA’s working relationships with organisations including HouseProud North and its backing for LGBTQ+ charitable organisations and regional equality initiatives.
Specialist LGBTQ+ training has been provided to employees, encompassing work to deepen understanding of young LGBTQ+ individuals’ experiences within their home environments.
MHA has emphasised that the LGBTQ+ Housing Pledge forms part of a broader organisational objective to develop welcoming communities where all residents feel valued and supported.
The provider has indicated its intention to advance this work further and build upon the progress acknowledged through the new accreditation.
