A fresh initiative aims to give teenagers greater influence over local affairs through a newly announced collaboration between a secondary school and a community organisation.
Carlton Bolling Secondary School has established a partnership with Community Works, a local community centre, with the objective of boosting young people’s participation in community governance and development activities.
The arrangement will see three pupils from Carlton Bolling appointed to the Community Works board of trustees in the role of Young People’s Representatives.
These positions will enable the students to contribute their viewpoints on initiatives and services that impact households throughout the area.
According to Mohammed Azum, the head of school at Carlton Bolling, the collaboration represents a logical progression of existing outreach activities carried out by the institution within the surrounding neighbourhood.
By participating directly on the trustee board, pupils will be able to help enhance the assistance accessible to local families while also having agency over the provisions and experiences that most concern them.
Vikrant Bhatia, chief executive of Community Works, expressed the organisation’s pleasure at receiving student representatives from Carlton Bolling Secondary School onto the board.
He indicated enthusiasm for working alongside the educational establishment to fulfil their common ambition of generating valuable experiences for area youth, with the intention that their input would have genuine impact on how the community develops going forward.
