A new sports facility has been inaugurated in the vicinity of Bradford.
The £9.6 million Woodhall Sports Hub, supported by Leeds City Council and the Football Foundation, welcomed visitors on Saturday.
Situated off Bradford Road close to Pudsey, the 8.3-hectare complex comprises three full-sized floodlit 3G surfaces, two grass pitches, outdoor recreation zones, and a pavilion incorporating refreshment services, community rooms, and amenity changing areas.
The facility received commendation from elected officials.
Councillor Salma Arif, deputy leader of Leeds City Council and executive portfolio holder for the economy, described the establishment as a valuable addition to the city.
The council has expressed commitment to enhancing public health outcomes through initiatives of this nature.
Officials anticipate the pitches will prove popular among users, while additional amenities including recreational spaces and the pavilion’s refreshment and meeting facilities are expected to serve broader community needs.
The sports hub received funding through partnership with the Premier League, the Football Association, and the Government’s Football Foundation, which allocated £5.4 million through its Hubs initiative.
Designed to address health and wellbeing disparities by encouraging participation in sport and physical activity, the development forms part of the council’s broader Leeds Ambitions strategy.
Robert Sullivan, chief executive of the Football Foundation, confirmed the organisation’s pleasure that residents across west Leeds would now benefit from improved access to grassroots sporting facilities at the site.
The Hubs programme establishes safe and accessible environments that create meaningful improvements in physical and mental health while uniting communities through football and various other sporting and recreational pursuits.
Management of the hub falls under the National Football Trust, with day-to-day operations conducted by the Leisure United charity.
Any surplus revenue generated by the facility will be channelled back into outdoor sporting provision throughout the city.
Mark Coulson, chief executive officer of Leisure United, noted that the substantial new facility delivers much-required high-quality playing surfaces.
He expressed satisfaction at supporting increased capacity for grassroots sport in Calverley and surrounding communities.
As a not-for-profit operator, the organisation takes pride in directing surplus income toward outdoor sports provision across Leeds, enabling greater participation by individuals and groups in the years ahead.
