A Bradford-based housing provider has marked 40 years of community work with a celebration event at a city venue.
Manningham Housing Association commemorated its milestone anniversary at Bradford Live, honouring four decades of delivering affordable accommodation throughout the district.
The gathering included performances from Dixons Manningham Academy Choir, a traditional Baul music act, and Punjab Roots ensemble.
Attendees were also treated to an awards programme and the unveiling of a special anniversary cake.
Rupert Pometsey, chair of the association, addressed those present including Kersten England CBE, Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.
According to Mr Pometsey, conditions in the area prior to the organisation’s formation were severe, with residents enduring cramped circumstances and reports of properties housing up to 18 occupants.
He noted that during the early 1990s, the United Nations officially recognised Manningham Housing Association’s community-focussed regeneration approach, labelling the work as highly effective.
Research conducted by the Bangladeshi Youth Organisation uncovered a pressing demand for bigger residences within Bradford’s Black and Minority Ethnic communities, which led to MHA’s founding in 1986.
The organisation now oversees more than 1,400 properties across Bradford and Keighley, with three-quarters intended for extended households.
Mr Pometsey acknowledged that regulatory concerns affected the organisation approximately ten years ago when its governance assessment was lowered.
He attributed the subsequent recovery to incoming management.
The appointment of Barrington Billings as chair in 2017 and Lee Bloomfield as chief executive in 2018 positioned the association for sustained progress.
Under their direction, the body restored its top G1 and V1 regulatory classifications and secured multiple sector honours.
The dedication of staff members enabled the association to obtain and maintain the Customer Service Excellence accreditation.
Additionally, MHA became the inaugural housing provider globally to attain the international Standard for Diversity and Inclusion in HR Management, alongside collecting various regional and national prizes.
Lee Bloomfield, chief executive, indicated that recent accomplishments represent merely the initial phase of broader ambitions.
The board sanctioned a refreshed corporate strategy earlier this year, reaffirming commitments to delivering quality housing, strengthening BME and other communities, and establishing conditions that enable residents to flourish.
Each new property constructed carries the capacity to transform the circumstances of every individual and family who makes their home there.
