A Bradford-based charitable organisation has distributed 20,000 complimentary meals to members of the public since commencing operations approximately two and a half years ago.
The Khidma Community Kitchen operates under the umbrella of the Nazim Ali Foundation and functions from premises at Masjid Nur in Heaton.
The organisation recently concluded its fourth annual Mawlid in the City event, which commemorated the birth of Prophet Muhammad through acts of community service across Bradford and Keighley.
During the celebration, 111 individuals experiencing homelessness or vulnerability were provided with three-course meals.
Each portion was accompanied by a card displaying a quotation attributed to Prophet Muhammad.
Representatives from the foundation presented 30 gift packages to young patients on Ward 17 at Airedale Hospital as part of the thirteenth iteration of the Creating Smiles Gifts Initiative.
The initiative has operated continuously for more than ten years, supported financially by Shiraz Ahmed and Fairaz Ahmed, directors of the Bradford business Saveco Cash and Carry.
According to those involved with the hospital project, the donations comprised various items suitable for children of all ages, encompassing soft toys, interactive play equipment and infant care products.
A spokesperson for the foundation indicated that the gift distribution represented an offering of gratitude to Prophet Muhammad on the occasion of his birthday, noting that his teachings had motivated sustained community engagement spanning nearly three decades.
The foundation expressed the view that assisting others should extend beyond boundaries of belief or background.
Karen Reece, who serves as a play specialist within Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, stated that staff were deeply thankful for the continued contributions received through Saveco Cash and Carry.
She indicated that the donated items reliably lifted the spirits of young patients, and that receiving the floral arrangements was particularly appreciated.
Representatives from Saveco Cash and Carry described themselves as honoured to participate in the Mawlid in the City programme and the associated toy gift scheme.
The company expressed satisfaction at being able to contribute to happiness within the local community through the distribution of flowers and confectionery.
They noted that witnessing children’s delight upon receiving presents brought personal fulfilment.
The organisation confirmed its ongoing commitment to various philanthropic ventures, including support for food distribution centres, meal services and youth football organisations, describing such activities as fundamental to their approach to corporate citizenship within Bradford.
