West Yorkshire’s most senior police officer will remain in his post for another four years.
Sir John Robins QPM DL has been granted an extended contract by Mayor Tracy Brabin, positioning him among the country’s longest-serving chief constables.
Sir John expressed gratitude for the continued opportunity to lead the force.
He emphasised his anticipation of collaborative work with organisational leaders, officers, and external partners to ensure continued protection for residents throughout the region.
The chief constable stated his pride in serving as a police officer alongside colleagues demonstrating such dedication to public duty.
Despite acknowledging future obstacles facing law enforcement, he conveyed confidence in building upon existing achievements while prioritising public welfare.
The Mayor outlined Sir John’s extensive contribution spanning over thirty years dedicated to community safety.
She noted his established national reputation as an exemplary policing leader.
His approach to supporting victims, pursuing justice, and driving organisational advancement has elevated West Yorkshire Police to a position of national prominence, she explained.
The decision to prolong his appointment ensures continuity, expertise, and firm leadership during ongoing efforts to enhance safety and equity throughout the area.
Sir John joined West Yorkshire Police in 1990, progressing through departmental ranks before assuming the chief constable position in July 2019.
His distinguished career was recognised with a knighthood in the 2026 King’s New Year Honours for services to policing.
