A West Yorkshire-based online furniture retailer has established operations in the Republic of Ireland in what the company described as a significant step in its growth strategy.
Bedkingdom, which maintains its headquarters in Liversedge, announced the launch of a dedicated Irish e-commerce platform enabling Irish customers to purchase the majority of the retailer’s own-label bedroom and home furnishings range.
Levon Hall, the company’s chief operating officer, explained that the decision to target the Irish market followed extensive analysis of potential expansion territories.
Hall noted that geographical closeness to Britain and cultural factors, including the emphasis Irish consumers place on their living spaces and traditions of family gathering, positioned Ireland as an ideal location for the business’s next phase of development.
The six-month preparation period culminated in the Irish website going live during the opening days of September.
Under the current logistics arrangement, goods ordered from Ireland are dispatched from British distribution centres, with the company indicating intentions to develop dedicated warehousing capacity within the Republic to improve delivery timescales as the operation matures.
From a commercial perspective, Irish consumers face no supplementary customs charges or levy obligations when purchasing through the platform, and complimentary shipping becomes available for transactions meeting the €250 threshold.
Hall outlined that navigating regulatory and procedural requirements to enter an unfamiliar jurisdiction had presented considerable administrative demands, with post-Brexit trade dynamics introducing additional complexity for businesses seeking to serve customers beyond British borders.
The retailer stocks merchandise from external furniture producers alongside its proprietary ranges and expressed interest in cultivating supply relationships with manufacturers seeking entry to the Irish marketplace.
The expansion coincides with sustained commercial advancement for the business, which has recorded 54 percent organic web traffic growth on an annual basis.
Bedkingdom traces its origins to founder Ashley Hainsworth, who launched mattress sales through digital channels while completing studies at Huddersfield University with a starting capital of ÂŁ400.
The enterprise currently manages three distribution facilities situated across West Yorkshire and contributes to revenues exceeding ÂŁ28 million within the Flair Furniture Group structure.
Industry recognition has included inclusion on the Sunday Times Top 100 listing during 2023 and an 18th-place finish in the Ward Hadaway Yorkshire Fastest 50 rankings published in 2025.
