A elected representative for the Keighley constituency has called for immediate measures to be implemented after another significant fire broke out at Dalton Mills, warning that the recurring incidents must cease.
This latest blaze marks the fifth substantial fire to occur at the historic textile mill within a five-year period.
Emergency services from West Yorkshire responded to the Victorian-era manufacturing complex after receiving reports of the fire at approximately 8pm on Saturday evening.
The Grade II* protected building, which has served as a filming location for productions such as Downton Abbey and Peaky Blinders, had previously been targeted by arsonists in 2011.
The structure suffered extensive internal damage during a fire incident in 2022, and another deliberate fire was recorded at the premises in 2025.
Earlier this year, in February, two separate fires erupted at the site within a six-day timeframe, with investigators from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service classifying both incidents as intentional.
The constituency’s Member of Parliament, Robbie Moore from the Conservative Party, expressed frustration in a statement shared on social media platform X.
He noted that residents would have witnessed the significant fire affecting the centre of Keighley, describing the situation as extremely exasperating.
Moore emphasised that the pattern of incidents simply cannot persist.
He stated that efforts had been ongoing for years to encourage the local council to take steps to properly secure the premises, and that this latest fire represents yet another major occurrence.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a statement on Saturday evening urging the public to stay away from the vicinity.
Emergency personnel oversaw the evacuation of numerous residents from surrounding properties due to the seriousness of the situation and the potential danger to those living nearby.
Officers from the Local Authority Emergency Planning department arrived at the scene to provide assistance and information to those displaced by the evacuation.
By Sunday morning, authorities provided an update indicating that the fire had been contained.
A representative from the fire service confirmed that operations at Dalton Mills continued on Sunday morning.
Two fire appliances remained at the location, though the situation was reported as being under control.
