Sainsbury’s recalls black olives over listeria contamination

Published on

A product recall has been issued for a specific olive item available at Sainsbury’s after tests detected the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product is the 120 gram pack of Inspired to Cook by Sainsbury’s Pitted Black Olives.

The recall encompasses batches bearing use-by dates of 6 September 2026, 7 September 2026, and 10 September 2026.

The Food Standards Agency has warned that consumption of the contaminated product could result in flu-like symptoms including elevated body temperature, muscle aches and pains, chills, feelings of nausea, and diarrhoea.

In uncommon circumstances, the infection may lead to more serious health complications such as meningitis.

Certain groups face heightened risk from Listeria infections, including individuals aged 65 and above, pregnant women and their unborn children, infants younger than one month, and people whose immune systems have been compromised.

Members of the public who have purchased the product have been advised against consuming it.

Instead, the item should be returned to any Sainsbury’s store where a full refund will be provided.

The supermarket has expressed regret for any inconvenience resulting from the recall.

Further details regarding the recall are available through the retailer’s careline on 0800 028 8303.
