Bradford is set to host the United Kingdom’s inaugural flower carpet display in the coming weeks.
The 29-metre installation, created by local artist Shiraaz Ali, will occupy Centenary Square from September 24 through September 27.
The artwork incorporates approximately 300,000 individual flowers.
The artist has described the conceptual foundations of the project.
According to his explanations, the design reflects how individual blooms work collectively to form a unified living artwork.
The temporary nature of the display gives the installation its significance, serving as a metaphor for human existence.
Each component maintains its own identity while simultaneously contributing to the overall composition.
The Belgian tradition of flower carpet displays, which began in the 1970s, provided inspiration for this UK premiere.
The installation will feature archival patterns and symbolic imagery examining themes of identity, community, and human connection.
